Description
A step 1 in map book creation would be to generate the coverage layer.
The generated layer could be (order by implementation difficulty):
- a regular grid (with and without empty coverages)
- an optimized non-regular grid according to a reference layer
- a non-regular, with size-varying coverages according to a reference layer
- other modes ?
Please add comments on use case. Having a complete solution will need some work

A very useful tools that I miss in Atlas is the possibility to set the layout scale from a field.
Can I reproduce it by generating a grid in some way ?

a regular grid (with and without empty coverages)
You can create this using the "Easy Print" plugin.
a non-regular, with size-varying coverages according to a reference layer
Isn't this already possible? I was able to select a layer of catchment boundaries for the coverages, and that worked fine. Or do you mean you want it to work for a polyline layer as well, not just a polygon layer?
Please add comments on use case.
It would also be good to be able to:
- generate coverages only for selected features in a layer
- generate coverages only for certain features in a layer, determined by an attribute field.
- generate coverages along a polyline, at a specified scale.

Sorry, that comment should look like this:

It should work with polyline, polygons and points, and be able to generate multiple coverages for a single object for example. But the best use case and behaviour is still to be defined.

- Status changed from New to Rejected
Atlas features have been incorporated into QGIS master as of Oct 2012. This plugin is now obsolete and will not evolve any longer.
