Can you explain? Sorry, this is unclear to me.

At present, the user plots a cross section and then can classify the earthquakes. We would also like to be able to do this in map view by drawing a polygon around a group of earthquakes.
We need to be able to assign a classification flag (e.g. crustal, subduction, intraslab...) when we classify earthquakes and then this is stored as a field in the layer.

This can be done by clicking on "Draw" button and drawing a polygon.

What's the step next to "drawing the polygon around a group of earthquakes"?
Is it "assigning a classification flag" to earthquakes in that polygon or are they separated things?
I need more info, I'm unable to find that part on the specifications document.

Yes, once a user draws a polygon around earthquakes in map view, they will then assign a classification flag. The reason being, a user may wish to classify earthquakes in cross-section OR map view.
